Probiotics are live microorganisms for our health

I'm here to talk about probiotic bacteria, a very discussed topic right now and for good reason because more people are getting more interested in probiotics and more studies are done on probiotics to learn of their health benefits.

With that in mind, what does science tells us, really tells us about probiotics, how healthy are they and how safe are they for use?

In my experience, I found that you cannot always count on the claims of supplements but you can count always on science. Many supplements will make claims that while may be true and are not always lies, are not always backed up by science or atleast lack a lot of scientific evidence that can have them be labeled as healthy and as safe.

We have proof that certain strains of probiotic bacteria are healthy and we have proof of how they can improve our health or certain aspects of it, but also we lack proof needed to back up other benefits, although they might be true because they have been hinted at in research.

An example of a health benefit that probiotics might promote, but that lacks evidence is in weight loss or weight management because when scientists took bacteria from overweight lab rats and put them into lean lab rats, those lean rats took on weight as a result and of course it is thought that the bacteria were the influence but we don't know exactly what action caused this so there is a lack of understanding and of evidence you see. So it might be true that these bacteria have influence on weight management since their influence on digestion is definitely there as they can process foods and synthesize nutrients and so on, but we can't just put them into weight loss supplements and start using bacteria to lose weight when there is a massive lack of evidence as to how they would promote weight loss.

Many people use antibiotics, basically anyone that ever had an infection probably used an antibiotic to treat it, that is because antibiotics kill what causes infections, which is pathogens, harmful species of microrganisms like bacteria. Well antibiotics can cause antibiotic associated diarrhea or AAD and probiotics have evidence that supports the prevention of AAD and diarrhea in general, there is quite a lot of evidence on this topic than on other claims.
